Guam's Heritage on the World Stage

April 19, 2017 Andrew Roberto

Starting July 9th, Guam becomes the epicenter of basketball for Oceania. Our island nation plays host to the FIBA U17 Oceania Championship!

This is definitely going to be a moment of glory for Guam.

Our island doesn't just get to be on the center stage of an important global event. We are the center stage of an important global event--and the new championship logo proves it.

First off, the colors yellow, blue, and green were selected because of our close ties to the ocean, sun, and land.  But take a closer look at the logo overall. Check out the yellow shape.

Does it look familiar?

What about now?

Knowing how important sea-faring was to this region, FIBA incorporated a proa sail right into the logo.

But the coolest feature of all is one unique to Guam.

The whole design is the shape of a  slingstone , an iconic image which represents our native warrior spirit and calls to mind our flag.

Ball really is life for Guam, where we're a vibrant, basketball-loving, 3-point shooting island culture. It's only fitting our logo match our personality.
