Wine Fest's Bests 🍷🍾

October 12, 2017 Lacee A.C. Martinez

UNO Guam did plenty of heavy lifting at Wine Fest 2017 in search of the tastiest and most potent vinos of the night. If you like these picks, hit up the  Wine Cellar Sale from 1 to 5 p.m., Nov. 18 at all Pay-Less Supermarkets locations.  You'll find deep discounts on more than 150 wines, including a few we're featuring here. Trust us, you're going to want to stock up.

1. Cheap, Everyday Drinker: Viña Maipo Sauvignon Blanc

This bottle offers a good lesson for both newbies and serious vino lovers: don't judge a wine by its screw top. Viña Maipo Sauvignon Blanc is a subtly sweet Chilean white that ends with a slight citrus tang. Chilled, it's a refreshing anytime wine that's as easy to drink as it is easy on the wallet.

Price: $12

2. I'm So Fancy: Moet & Chandon Ice Imperial

Awaken your inner rapper and pop open a bottle of Moet & Chandon when you're feeling fancy AF. This is the real deal when it comes to champagne, and our pick is one of the newest kids on the block - Ice Imperial. Unlike its brut brothers, this bubbly is served over ice to smooth out its syrupy taste.

Price: $68

3. The Sophisticate: La Crema Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

This uber smooth red has  the right amount of body and the tiniest bite to let people know, "Hey, I know what I'm doing." And even if you don't, a bottle of La Crema will let you fake it till you make it. Pinkies up!

Price: $34

4. Wasted Weekend Wine: Conundrum California Red Blend

A lot of red wines, even the fancy kinds, can go down like a punch in the chest. With a whopping 15.2 percent ABV (alcohol by volume), you'd expect to at least pucker from a swig of Conundrum's California Red Blend. Nope. This wine is silky smooth with barely any alcohol burn. It finishes clean and almost sweet, unlike other reds.

Price: $25

5. The Gift: Milagro Vineyard Cabernet Franc, Estate Mouverdre-Petite Sirah and Estate Chardonnay

This is the thoughtful gift that will impress. Right down to its label, these Milagro Vineyard wines have deep connections to the island. The California vineyard is owned by a woman from Guam. The blends were created in partnership with Mid Pacific Distributors with proceeds going to the Edward M. Calvo Cancer Foundation. And the label was designed by local artist Michelle Pier.

$34 available only at the Micronesia Mall Pay-Less

Jasmine's Bonus Pick:  Brown Brothers Moscato

We can't give you a wine shortlist without a sugary sweet pick. Jasmin Guerrero went to bat for UNO at Wine Fest 2017 and came back with her favorite bottle of the night - Brown Brothers Moscato. This Australian white has a mild effervescent kick that lifts and refreshes.

Tasting all that vino was a lot of fun at Wine Fest 2017.  Check out our recap here with Jasmin and Iowani.
