PSL season is in full swing across the nation. Pumpkin spice latte is a beloved beverage so big, it's got its own Twitter account controlled by Starbucks, of course. PSL signal fall and Thanksgiving the way Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas" blasted across radio waves and department stores signal the return of Christmas.
The flavors of PLS, however, have evolved beyond the coffee mega giant and its venti cup. Pumpkin spice is everywhere and since we don't have a Starbucks on Guam, we're featuring a handful of available fall inspired beverages to gently slide you into Thanksgiving.
1. Jack in the Box Pumpkin Spice Shake
You can always count on fast food chains to keep us in the food trend loop. Jack in the Box has its own special twist to fall - the Pumkin Spice Shake. Jack uses a pumpkin spice syrup blended with its vanilla shake to produce its sugary sweet concoction. The shake is crowned with whipped cream and garnished with gingersnap crumbles and a single cherry. It is rich, super sweet and super naughty.
Cost: $4.19 for regular and $4.39 for large
2. Patisserie Parisco Pumpkin Caramel Frappe
The masters of gourmet French and Asian inspired patisserie have shown us more tricks up their sleeves with their line of coffees and specialty frappes. Naturally, Parisco is serving up their own fall offering, Pumpkin Caramel Frappe, a leveled up version PSL. It does have the key pumpkin spice features, including earthy pumpkin, rounded off with caramel. The frosty drink also has espresso, just like its big brother inspiration.
Cost: $6.50 for 16 ounces and $6.95 for 20 ounces
3. Port of Mocha Pumpkin Spice Chai
Traditional chai is already aromatic and spicy, chock full of the same warming spices found in warming pumpkin spice mixes. But why not take another bold step by adding pumpkin spice and its fragrant, earthy tones? Port of Mocha did and it's a great option for the season.
4. f'reals Pumpkin Cheesecake Shake
The dream of milkshakes anytime you want came true when f'reals machines hit Foody's and other Guam gas stations across the island. And for a limited time, you can get a f'reals shake in decadent Pumpkin Cheesecake tailored to your own thickness. It's super sweet with all of the right pumpkin flavors tempered with the mild tang of cheesecake. Even better, it's on special in some locations with a discount when you buy two.
5. Cup & Saucer Pumpkin Frost
For a hand-crafted take on the pumpkin spice trend, head to Hagåtña for Cup & Saucer's Pumpkin Frost. Real, creamy pumpkin is blended with housemade ginger syrup for a delicately sweet and cool mix. Ginger cookie crumbles line the bottom of the cup for added depth and dimension and a spiced sugar is sprinkled on top for another hint of sweetness. It's like liquid Thanksgiving. To be clear, the drink alone costs $5.95. You have to pay a dollar extra for whipped cream. If you're going to get a pumpkin pie inspired beverage, whipped cream is a must. So, get the whipped cream.
