Thrifting is a craft. It's not for the faint of heart. You have to be committed to combing through tons of items in order to find your treasure, whether it be a cool denim jacket or a pair of hot pink Diane von Fustenburg pants.
I got into thrift shopping when I was in middle school. I loved being able to score bundles of good quality clothes for low prices and some of my best closet staples have come from thrift stores.
Some days I wouldn't find something cool but other days I'd find a vintage jacket that would carry me throughout my college days.
Here on Guam we have a few of thrift stores that stock a good collection of items, besides thrift stores you can score items from yard sales and the flea market.
Tip #1 - Patience and persistence are key
Finding a good piece takes time. Don't expect to find something worthwhile every time you go out to shop. You can find something this week but then you might not find another piece for weeks or months. But that's ok, be patient and only purchase items that you feel good about.
Thrifted Items: DHL rain jacket + Levi cuff off shorts
Tip #2 - Recognize quality
Get familiar with high end brand names and how good quality materials feel. For instance, I was able to score a pair of hot pink Diane von Fusternberg pants from a thrift store and I bought it because was really inspired by this Gigi Hadid look. If you're unsure about a piece, you can always check Pinterest for inspiration and ideas.

Tip #3 - Make it work
Sometimes you might find a really cool coat and you don't like the buttons or a dress that doesn't fit right. Make it work for you, change the buttons or alter the dress. Don't feel overwhelmed by small stains or minor tears, because if the piece is a good quality and you love it -- it'll be worth it.
Thrifted Item: striped chiffon pants (no brand)
If you have any extra items or clothing that you don't need or use anymore, you can donate it to one of our local thrift stores! 😊 Here are a few of our local thrift stores: Hidden Treasures, Salvation Army, and Kurason Y Sengsong.
