Packing: Pack light and see as much as you can. You never know when you'll visit again. I've been backpacking for four years now and each trip my bag gets lighter. All you really need are clothes, toiletries and a camera. I travel with two carry on size backpacks to avoid checking in and easier to move around place to place.
Southeast Asia tends to be on the cheap side for accommodations. You can get a hostel for as low as $8 or private room for $25-$30. Europe can be expensive and hostels go for $25 and private rooms for $45-$50. I usually book accommodations a day or two before as plans can change and I have cancelled all my prior bookings before coming to Europe.
